BREAKING: latest details on why Cohen is being investigated

The FBI raided the home and office of Michael Cohen, President Trump's longtime personal lawyer, [he's like "Tom Hagen" in the "Godfather"]. They took Cohen's computer, phone and personal finance records.

Now sources familiar with the raid revealed to The Washington Post that he "is under federal investigation for possible bank fraud, wire fraud, and campaign finance violations."

The New York Times also mentioned allegations of bank fraud in their initial report stating:

Federal prosecutors in Manhattan are investigating Mr. Cohen for possible bank fraud, and the documents identified in the warrant date back years, according to a person briefed on the search.

The prosecutors obtained the search warrant after receiving a referral from the special counsel, Robert S. Mueller III, according to Mr. Cohen's lawyer, who called the search "completely inappropriate and unnecessary." The search does not appear to be directly related to Mr. Mueller's investigation, but most likely resulted from information he had uncovered and gave the prosecutors in New York. 

President Trump called the raid a "disgrace" and an attack on the United States. 

He's wrong.

It's an attack on President Trump or the office of the presidency, not an attack on the country. Clearly the attack stinks of political bias, as Trump said. All you need to do is consider the Hillary Clinton investigation into her illegal email server was handled by the FBI to compare. In fact, it was then-FBI Director Comey who changed the law to favor Clinton when he spoke about the lack of her "intention" to break the law.

Intention was never part of the wording of the law and Comey is a lawyer and knows this.

Cohen's attorney, Stephen Ryan, called the raid completely unnecessary saying his client has fully cooperated with authorities and turned over thousands of documents to congressional investigators regarding the Russia election tampering investigation.

"Today the U.S. attorney's office for the Southern District of New York executed a series of search warrants and seized the privileged communications between my client, Michael Cohen, and his clients," Ryan said. "I have been advised by federal prosecutors that the New York action is, in part, a referral by the office of special counsel, Robert Mueller."
