Germany: taking away homes, giving them to migrants

Germany -- It began in Hamburg, the second largest city in Germany. Government authorities in the city have been confiscating commercial dwellings from its citizens to give migrants a place to live.

They can thank Chancellor Angela Merkel for the situation after she decided to let over two million migrants into the country the last few years.

Officials have been seizing commercial buildings and converting them into migrant shelters since 2015, when the Chancellor opened German borders to hundreds of thousands of migrants from Africa, Asia and the Middle East. But now they're stealing homes from private citizens, who they apparently have less regard for than migrants, who have been creating problems throughout the EU since arriving there.

Let me repeat this: the city is taking residential property units owned by private citizens to provide shelters for migrants. This does not include Angela Merkel, by the way. Her place is all her own.

In a bold, unprecedented move, Hamburg authorities stole six residential units in the Hamm district near the city center.

The units are "owned" by a private landlord who are powerless to prevent the government from taking away what is theirs. Now the property is owned by the German government.

One can make the excuse that the buildings have been vacant for about five years, but I have shirts I haven't worn in six years and they're still mine.

The next excuse one can make is that the buildings are in need of repair and are going to be renovated and rented out by the city.

But just because you washed my six year old shirts, you don't have the right to own them, wear them, or give them away. They're mine.

The kicker is, according to Sorina Weiland, District spokeswoman, that all renovation costs to the buildings will be billed to the owner of the properties.

That's like taking my shirts and having them washed at a launder mat, then charging me for washing them and still not giving them back.

The stealing by the government is authorized by the Hamburg Housing Protection Act (Hamburger Wohnraumschutzgesetz), a 1982 law that the city's Socialist government updated in May 2013. It allows the city to take any residential property unit that has been vacant for more than 16 weeks.

Socialism at its sucking best.

The forced lease is the first of its kind in Germany and is aimed at pressuring owners of other vacant residences in Hamburg to make them available for the government to plunder and rent out.

Socialists and Greens (the latter are actually Germans with bad teeth) in Hamburg established a "hotline" where local residents can inform on their neighbor's vacant properties.

Maybe they'll even have a bounty for the informants and provide them with jackboots.
