Israel to take in 100 Syrian orphans

Israel is going to grant refugee status to 100 children who were orphaned during the Syrian civil war. The Israeli government is granting the children temporary residency with a path to staying in the country permanently, according to Israel's Channel 10.

Interior Minister Aryeh Deri made the decision and it will allow the kids to become permanent residents after four years, with the possibility of remaining there for the rest of their lives if they so wish. Their immediate relatives will also be considered for refugee status in Israel as well.

The children will reportedly be place with Arab-Israeli families.

Israel will establish a working relationship with the relevant international organizations to bring the children to the country.

More than 2,500 Syrians have been cared for in Israeli hospitals since 2013 in spite of the two countries having been in a state of war since 1948. Pregnant women sometimes go to the Israeli border to deliver their babies in Israel and Israeli doctors have treated young Syrian patients with state-of-the-art procedures.

An Israeli crowd-funding campaign raised almost $350,000 for Syrian refugees last month toward this effort.

An in spite of all this, the UN sanctioned Israel 20 times for defending itself against Islamic terrorism and anti-Semitic hatred.
