Senate Dems try to plug the hole

Senate Democrats are doing mental acrobatics to prevent two of their own from taking a post in the highly dangerous, provocative and white supremacist Trump administration. (And if you know this blog, you know I don't think of Trump that way.) If Sens. Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND) accept the Trump card, it will enhance the GOP's control of the Senate chamber.

The Trump administration launched a "full court press" [big league] to get their hands on these two senators, but for now, Manchion appears as if he's staying back. This puts the onus on Heidi.

One classy guy
Heitkamp is a first-term senator who faces re-election in 2018 in a conservative state and appears to be in the mix for Agricultural secretary position. Trump's transition team said the Trump "really wants her" for the job.

If she accepts Trump's offer, her seat could remain empty for months and Democrats would have even less influence during Trump's first 100 days in office when he hopes to replace a vacant justice in the Supreme Court.

In the long run, Senate GOPers would have a solid chance of winning Heitkamp's seat in a special election giving the Republicans a 52 to 48 majority.

In other good news, Harry Reid is retiring as Senate Minority Leader.

Don't let the door hit you . . . Harry.
