Arizona alleged shooter could do 100 years before he walks out of prison

Leslie Allen Merritt Jr., 21, and the prime suspect in the Phoenix, AZ freeway shootings could go to prison for 100 years if convicted according to Maricopa County prosecutor Bill Montgomery. That means he will obviously be 121 years old when he gets out of prison and will likely be too old to drive or commit similar crimes.

Because he faces four counts of shootings with each possible sentence of 20 to 30 years, the math pans out to average around a century in the slammer if the sentences are issued consecutively.

That would really suck for Leslie, but at least the public can worry less when driving down that old highway.

Although Merritt claims innocence, there have been no shootings since they incarcerated him, and the young women of suburban Glendale, from where Merritt hales, will not have the pleasure of his company.

The overweight "Banjo Boy" is to be arraigned Thursday on 15 felony counts that include aggravated assault and carrying out a drive-by shooting.

One of Merritt's attorneys, Jason Lamm, hasn't had the chance to review police reports or evidence against Leslie. "We're looking for the truth, and there is no stone that will be left unturned to find it," Lamm said. Nobody replied "You can't handle the truth."

Merritt was arrested at a Wal-Mart in Glendale, possibly preparing to take candid photos of corpulent people in outrageous outfits.

What we now know is the Arizona Department of Public Safety tied him to four of the eleven shootings along the Phoenix freeways between August 22 and September 10th. As more information is reviewed by law enforcement, the possibility that Merritt will be in deeper dung looms in the air.

Merritt's arrest brought Arizona Governor, Doug Ducey (no relation to the Ducey's of Fox News) to announce it on Twitter: "We got him!" he tweeted, which drew criticism for the possibility of implying that Merritt was guilty. Ducey later tweeted: "What these women can do to a man's sexual appetite will blow your mind."

Just kidding. But let's face it, Ducey's tweet was as dumb as a box of rocks.
